Haiti

In August 1995, my adult middle son Mark, suddenly left this world, in a whirl of grief and bewilderment for those he left behind. At the right time, the Universe gently took me by the hand and revealed the ways of life and death to me, and changed my confused feelings to understanding for myself, and empathy toward others. By the time of Sept. 11, 2001, and the tragedy of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and other worldly reports that took so many souls from this planet in a single swoop, I had concluded that those souls were all at that place of gathering because of their “life purpose”. It was now time to leave, whatever their part in this world had been before, or perhaps this way of “leaving” was their primary purpose.

We have all heard the amazing stories of tragedy turned into miracles. Events so unfathomable to our humanness, in our innocence we believed we could never see how anything “good” could ever come of the mass destruction and “death”. (Even though we know “death” takes us away, at inconvenient times, or expectedly, as we age.)

Recently, within 5 days, people in the world, from countries that previously had “spent all their personal and financial reserves” on sustaining life in the past year”, rallied to walk through their beliefs and restraints to open their minds, hearts, and hands to Haiti. That action alone is a display of world change, that those departing souls understood as their “purpose”. I believe they each had a mission, and are “on the other side” watching how the world joins together to manage the bigger picture, now they have set the stage.

Ever notice when someone loses a job, a pet, a home, a person etc., out of the anger, agony, frustration and bewilderment, comes some redeeming feature that could not be believed or revealed at the time? This is where I am in my understanding of the big picture. To our earthly human hearts and minds the tragedies in Haiti and even right beside us in our neighborhood, there is a purpose, that our anguished tears will dry and reveal to us in time. One day we will come to know it and feel peace from the process. Our world is coming to peace, and we too, want to ask ourselves what is our part in it.

Synchronicities will abound. In December 1995, as I administered Mark’s Will, among his things, I finally followed the title written on a continually surfacing scrap of paper in Mark’s handwriting, “Angel Wisdom, Terry Lynn Taylor”. Close to the end of the book, the Angels’ story of “Time To Go” began to bring a leak of light into my grief. The story of how he happened to quickly jot down those words a few weeks before his accident, at the recommendation of a mutual friend, and how I happened to find out from her how that came to be, is an amazing synchronicity…but there are many. I saved the torn paper, and taped it to the inside cover of the book. Then, I bought several books for family, friends and people who the Universe put in front of me who might benefit.

I look at that paper scrap now as I write this to you, Mark’s and my part in sharing however you need to begin to understand, to process the bewilderment of Haiti’s experience and impact on the world, and…the future of it, as we learn to fathom how things work, (even going back to the day the author decided to include that message in her book, with the page title, “Time To Go”.
